Southampton vs Arsenal: Teams News, Predictions, Live Scores

By:JAMES ANDERSON Published on: December 31, 2012 11:17 pm Leave a Comment

ST MARY’S (Sporting Alert) – Theo Walcott will start as the center forward again when Arsenal travel to St. Mary’s Stadium to face Southampton in their Barclays Premier League fixture on Tuesday.

Also down for action in the EPL Tuesday are: West Brom v Fulham, Manchhester City v Stoke, West Hamvs Norwich, Swansea vs Aston Villa, Tottenham vsReading and Manchester United v Wigan.

Walcott is coming off a three goal performance in the Gunners’ 7-3 hammering of Newcastle over the weekend and manager Arsene Wenger is set to keep his same line-up for the New Year’s Day trip.

Olivier Giroud is back and came off the bench to score twice in the last game.

Still, the center forward is finding it difficult to win back his place in the starting team.

“He (Walcott) likes it [in that position]. But I believe Theo is just happy to play, even if he is on the wing because he still knows he can score,” Wenger told Arsenal.com.

“I like the fact he can play through the middle because it gives us more opportunities to do that and more possibilities to change from game to game. I will do it again.”

The 23-year-old Walcott will come up against his former club and the England attacker is looking forward to the special occasion.

“Looking at our Premier League form recently, it has been very strong,” Walcott said on Arsenal official website at www.arsenal.com.

“We are looking to climb the table, take every game as it comes and we have another match on Tuesday.

“It will be a very tough occasion against Southampton, but it is one I am really looking forward to. I am probably going to wrap myself in bubble wrap for the next few days!

“It will be a very special moment for me and Alex [Oxlade-Chamberlain], and also for some of the fans to see us come back to the club.”

Centre-back Per Mertesacker is once again available after he missed the Newcastle contest because of illness, but Wenger is expected to name an unchanged starting squad which means Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny could continue at the back.

In Southampton team news, the Saints will again be without captain Adam Lallana, who has a knee injury.

Manager Nigel Adkins could also be without right-back Nathaniel Clyne, who is complaining about knee problems as well.

Manchester City vs Stoke City Teams, Predictions, Live Scores and More

By:Sports Desk Published on: December 31, 2012 8:51 pm Leave a Comment

MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) – Defending champions Manchester City will have their hands full in Tuesday’s Barclays Premier League game with Stoke City at Etihad Stadium.

Also down for action in the EPL Tuesday are: West Brom v Fulham, Southampton v Arsenal, West Ham vs Norwich, Swansea vs Aston Villa, Tottenham vs Reading and Manchester United v Wigan.

Tony Pulis Stoke side has that never say die attitude and it showed over the weekend when it came from 3-1 down to earn a point in the most unlikely manner against Southampton.

And if you follow the odds and last few meetings between these two teams, it would be a safe bet to say that this one is heading for a draw.

According to the statisticians, four of the last six Premier League meetings, including the last two between Stoke and Manchester City, have ended in 1-1 draws, but the defending champs have been very good at home in this fixture.

City’s Yaya Toure has come out to say teams are beginning to figure out the champions and it is believed that Pulis has already found the master plan to break down the title hunters.

TEAM NEWS:

Roberto Mancini City side will be without attacking midfielder Samir Nasri, who will start his three match ban for his sending-off at Norwich over the weekend.

Also expected to be missing is striker Mario Balotelli, who is still to recover from a virus and fullbacks Aleksandar Kolarov and Maicon who are also sidelined because of injuries.

Meanwhile, Stoke will be very happy to have defenders Ryan Shawcross and Geoff Cameron both back after serving one-match suspensions and missed the Southampton 3-3 thriller.

Michael Owen and Peter Crouch will again start on the bench, with Jonathan Walters and Kenwyne Jones likely to keep their starting places.

WIGAN (Sporting Alert) Leaders Manchester United will look to start the New Year on a winning note in the English Premier League fixture with Wigan at DW Stadium on New Year’s Day.

Man United holds a seven point advantage heading into the competition and are being back to take another win and maintain the lead over Manchester City and Chelsea, who are confidently breathing down their back.

“It is good to have this [seven point] advantage,” captain Nemanja Vidic said on www.manutd.com.

“But we have to be careful. There is still a long way to go. We have the experience of last year when we were eight points in front and in the end it didn’t finish well.

Also down for Tuesday are: West Brom v Fulham, Southampton v Arsenal, West Ham vs Norwich, Swansea vs Aston Villa, Tottenham vs Reading and Manchester City v Stoke.

Sir Alex Ferguson could have defender Rafael back for the game after the Brazilian missed the last four-games because of a hamstring injury.

Ferguson will also name another strong starting team, with the likes of Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez both coming back after starting on the bench in the win over West Bromwich.

Paul Scholes could start in midfield for Michael Carrick, who according to the manager, needs some freshening up after looking tired after Saturday’s 2-0 win.

Wayne Rooney, Nani and Anderson continue to be out, but defender Phil Jones could be available for the contest.

Japan international Shinji Kagawa, who returned from injury to start the last game, could also keep his place.

Wigan, in the meantime, will be without several players, including Albert Crusat (knee), Ben Watson (broken leg) and Ryo Miyaichi (ankle).

NOTE: If you’re a betting person then a Man Utd bet wouldn’t be so bad, as Wigan have been defeated in 14 of their 15 Premier League meetings with the leaders, although Roberto Martinez side picked up a stunning upset 1-0 win in this fixture 1-0 last season. Manchester United have picked up maximum three points in 19 of their last 22 Premier League games played in January.

Ferguson says Manchester United need Nani

By:Sports Desk Published on: December 29, 2012 8:17 pm Leave a Comment

MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has dismissed rumors he looking to sell Nani in the January transfer window and added that the player still has a future with the club.

There have been numerous media reporters linking the Portugal international with a move away from Old Trafford, but Manchester United Winger Nani: Reports” href=”http://sportingalert.com/2012/12/arsenal-manchester-united-winger-nani-reports/”>The winger, who was linked with a transfer move to Arsenal, is currently out with a hamstring injury, but Ferguson expects him to return in January.

“He’s got an incredible talent, but, unfortunately, he’s been injured,” the boss said.

“We have sent Nani over to Dubai for a break in the hope that it will help him with his recovery.

“I don’t think we will have him back until the middle of January. He’s never had a hamstring injury before and this is a bad one.”

Ferguson also said he will not be entering the transfer market in January as he believes his team already has enough quality players to win the Premier League title this season.

Manchester United hold a seven point lead in the EPL table after beating West Bromwich 2-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Defending champions Manchester City sit second 42 points, while Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal complete the top five teams in the Premier League after Saturday fixtures.

Chelsea vs Everton: Team News, Predictions, Guide and More

LIVERPOOL (Sporting Alert)  Midfielder Ramires could return for Chelsea FC in Sunday’s Premier League fixture against Everton at Goodison Park.

Ramires was doubtful with a knee problem, but after training on Friday, the Brazilian could be available for selection.

Fellow midfielder Mikel will also have a late fitness test on his knee before knowing whether he’ll be in the squad for the exciting contest.

Chelsea will be looking for a win to return to third place and keep close tabs with league leaders Manchester United and Manchester City.

The Blues are currently sitting in third after Tottenham frog-leap them with victry over Sunderland on Saturday.

Everton, in the meantime, are also eyeing a top four slot and will make life difficult for Rafa Benitez and his men when they travel to Goodison Park.

David Moyes side can go third with a good result.

Darron Gibson is expected to be back for the game after a thigh strain forced him to be substituted against Wigan on Boxing Day.

Everton, however, will continue to be without influential player Marouane Fellaini, who serve the final of a three-match ban.

Seamus Coleman is doubtful, while Tony Hibbert and Kevin Mirallas will both miss out again.

Everton comes into the game unbeaten in their last four home matches against Chelsea and has won the last three, but have failed to land victory in their seven previous Premier League meetings in December against the Blues.

Striker Nikica Jelavic has been in good tough at Goodison Park in this year, while Chelsea’s Juan Mata has scored in six of his last eight outings in all competitions for the club.

Moyes was delighted with his team’s performances in 2012 and is hoping to end it on a high.

“I think we have had a good year. At this time last year we had just kicked on and we finished the season very strongly, and since August we have continued that,” the boss told evertonfc.com.

“It is unfortunate that 2012 has been in two pieces. I think we would have to say that it has probably been as good a year as we have had.

“The football has improved, we look a threat – particularly since the arrival of Jelavic and the goals he brings.

“Overall you have seen big improvements. The Baines and Pienaar combination back on the left, Osman in the form he has been in and Darron Gibson doing well since he came here. We have been pleased with 2012.”

SKY GUIDE PREDICTION: Everton 2 vs Chelsea 1
Nikica Jelavic (EVE) has been heavily tipped to score first
