MUNICH (Sporting Alert) — English Premier League side Arsenal will face Turkish club Fenerbahce in the Champions League play-offs, following the draw which was announced on Friday.
The draw was made with the inclusion of Fenerbahce, who at the moment are anxiously awaiting a final decision from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over whether they will be allowed to compete in the Champions League, after they were been banned from Europe by UEFA for match-fixing in domestic competition.
The Turkish side could still be removed from the tournament even if they beat Arsenal, but UEFA are bracing for that dramatic twist.
Meanwhile, former European champions AC Milan and PSV Eindhoven will face-off in the play-offs, while Scottish club Celtic FC take on newcomers FC Shakhter Karagandy.
The first legs of the Champions League action take place on 20/21 August, with the return legs a week later.
