Elsewhere, Alexis Sanchez and Cesc Fabregas scored on either side of 45 minutes for 10-man Barcelona to beat Benfica on the road. Defensive midfielder Sergio Busquets was red carded in the 88th minute.

Also in the group, Georgios Samaras netted a late winner and Celtic beat Spartak 3-2.

BATE stunned Bayern Munich 3-1 and Jonas scored both goals in Valencia’s 2-0 win over 10-man Lille in Group F action.
