Chelsea manager Benitez blast wasteful Torres after misses

LONDON (Sporitng Alert) — Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez has told striker Fernando Torres he must start taking his chances on the big stages.

Torres, after scoring fluently against lesser opponents in the build-up and during the Club World Cup, failed to take his chances in the final of the competition against Corinthians on Sunday, and his manager was critical of the Spanish forward in front of goal.

“[You have to] try to find the positives in the situation,” Benitez said according to ESPNUK. “He was there. He had the chances.

“He scored the goal that was disallowed [in injury time].

“He has to take these chances in a final because it’s not easy to create too many. If you have two or three, you have to score.”

Torres’ future with Chelsea remains in question after the club was linked with a move for Atletico Madrid star man Radamel Falcao.

Falcao has been on fire this season, scoring 17 goals in the Spanish La Liga and many believes he could be a good swap for Torres.

Torres, meanwhile, has said he wants to remain with European Champions.
