LONDON (Sporting Alert) – Newcastle United have confirmed that they have given striker Demba Ba permission to speak with Chelsea FC over a possible transfer move to Stamford Bridge.
Newcastle said on its official website at www.nufc.co.uk that Chelsea have made a £7million offer for the forward, which has triggered the player’s contract release clause.
The club also confirmed that Ba will not feature in the Premier League fixture against Everton tonight, a big blow to a side, which has been hit by injuries recently.
“Newcastle United can confirm that Chelsea Football Club has made an official offer for Demba Ba which has triggered the release clause in the player’s contract,” the club said in a statement.
“The Club has given the player permission to speak to Chelsea FC and therefore he will not be included in the squad for tonight’s game against Everton.”
Ba scored twice against Arsenal in the last game out which Newcastle lost 7-3.
The striker was also linked with a move to Arsenal, but it’s Chelsea who have made the first move.
