Rose returned from a lengthy injury bother to start for the Bulls, but the visitors suffered a 100-99 overtime defeat, despite the star point guard scoring 29 points.
“It’s tough. It was definitely tough,” Rose said. “When you lose a game, especially for us, it’s tough.
“It’s going to hurt us no matter who we lose to, but that team played great, man.
“They were knocking down shots. Didn’t give up when we went up that big lead. They kept fighting.”
Carmelo Anthony was on form and led the way for New York with 43 points, including the key three-pointer to seal the win.
The Bulls, which were 15-7 without Rose this season, have dropped three of its last four games and will be hoping to start another win streak, starting with a victory tonight.
Meanwhile, Anthony, who was scoring his best tally since joining the New York Knicks last February, believes the game felt live a true playoff contest.
“This was a playoff game,” he said. “We have a chance, we might play these guys in the playoffs if we keep doing what we’re doing and get that seed, so this was a big statement game for us and we willed this one tonight.”
The Boston Celtics and the Miami will also be on show on Tuesday night, with both teams looking to take the valuable win.
Boston are on a two game win streak, while Miami have won three of its last four.
