ST. JOHN’S, Antigua (Sporting Alert) – Former captain and hard hitting batsman Chris Gayle has been named in the West Indies squad for the first Digicel Test against New Zealand.

The West Indies Selection Committee of the West Indies Cricket Board on Sunday announced the 13-member squad for the opening Test match, which starts on Wednesday at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground.

All-rounder Darren Sammy will captain the side, while wicketkeeper/batsman Denesh Ramdin will serve as his vice-captain.

Meanwhile, the squad also includes Narsingh Deonarine, who only recently hit 106 for the West Indies Cricket Board President’s XI against these same New Zealanders in a three day tour match, played also at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

Kemar Roach, who was amongst the wicket takers in their game, as well as Ravi Rampaul and spin star Sunil Narine, are also included.
