JUNE 1 — The NCAA Division I College Baseball Regional continues on Monday with another set of games as the push for more Super Regionals places heats up.
Ten games are on the schedule for Monday, with the likes of LSU and UCLA hoping to punch their tickets into the Super Regionals of the NCAA tournament.
Live Streaming coverage will be on ESPN3.com and the WatchESPN App, with livescores and scoreboards on the NCAA.com website.
At Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field, No. 1 seed LSU (50-10) will take on the second-seeded UNC Wilmington (41-17) in the Baton Rouge Regional final at 12 p.m. CT.
The contest was rescheduled.
The game was originally scheduled to be played on Sunday night, but the NCAA decided to push the game back to Monday, which angered the Tigers’ chiefs.
“The NCAA made a decision. They didn’t give me a reason. I don’t have a reason, okay,” LSU Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva said in a statement.
“There is a guideline that says that you are not allowed to start a game after 11 p.m. We could have easily started this game at 10:15 p.m. Frankly, it’s a ridiculous decision.
“It’s sad for our team, and it’s even worse for our fans. I feel so terribly bad for our 10,000 fans that all showed up and (had) to go home.
“A terrible decision by the NCAA. Period. That’s all I have to say, and if you have any questions, I’ll be happy to answer them for you.”
UNCW had set up another clash with the Tigers after beating Tulane 8-2 in Sunday’s elimination game, but their contest started three hours later than originally scheduled and it threw everything off course.
A win for LSU would see them joining the likes of Louisville, Arkansas, Cal State Fullerton, Florida, Virginia and Missouri State – who have already confirmed their Super Regionals round places on Sunday.
Defeat would mean the Tigers will have to play a game 7 on Monday at 7 p.m.
Another top seeded team looking to win a place in the Super Regionals is UCLA, and will hope their good form continues.
After losing 4-1 to Maryland on Saturday, the Bruins had to beat CSU Bakersfield in an elimination game on Sunday, which they handled 9-1.
Needing to beat the Terrapins twice to win their regional, UCLA won the first game 4-2, to set up another battle on Monday, with the winner taking all.
Elsewhere on Monday, Florida State and College of Charleston will battle in the Tallahassee Regional championship game, Vanderbilt take on Radford for the Nashville Regional crown, while NC State and TCU go head-to-head for the Fort Worth Regional title.
