College Bowl: Ohio v East Carolina Beef `O’ Brady’s Bowl on WatchESPN


The NCAA college football bowl games continue on Monday when Ohio University take on East Carolina in the 2013 Beef `O’ Brady’s Bowl.

When they take the field on Monday afternoon, it will be the Bobcats’ eighth bowl appearance all-time. The game will be at 2 p.m. in St. Petersburg, Fla. at Tropicana Field.

-The Bobcats need just 22 points to crack into the program’s all-time top five for points in a single season. Since Frank Solich’s first season in 2005, the Bobcats have posted four of Ohio’s top five single season scoring marks.
-Quarterback Tyler Tettleton needs just 104 yards to surpass 9,000 career passing yards. No Ohio quarterback has ever surpassed 9,000 career passing yards.
-Tettleton needs just two touchdown passes to tie former Northern Illinois signal caller Chandler Harnish with 68 career touchdown passes.
-Ohio running back Beau Blankenship needs 90 yards to become just the fourth Bobcat in school history to rush for 3,000 career yards.
-Blankenship is 156 yards shy of becoming just the third running back in school history to rush for 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons.
-Senior wide receiver Donte’ Foster needs just 42 yards to become just the second wide receiver in school history to surpass 900 yards for a single season. Current Indianapolis Colts wide receiver LaVon Brazill is the only Ohio wideout to surpass 900 yards receiving in a single season.
-Senior punt returner Travis Carrie needs just 55 yards to pass former Bobcat Stafford Owens (2001-04) for first on the all-time career punt return list. Carrie has 646 career punt return yards.
-Carrie also needs just one interception to crack the all-time Top 10 for career interceptions.
-Freshman defensive lineman Tarell Basham needs just 3.0 sacks to set the Ohio single-season record.
-As a team, the Bobcats need four sacks to tie the all-time top mark for sacks in a season. The all-time record for sacks in a season is 38. Ohio currently has 34 sacks on the year.

Ohio and East Carolina will meet for the just the third time on Monday, Dec. 23. The Pirates have won both meetings. The first meeting came in 1996 when the Bobcats dropped a 55-45 decision in Greenville, N.C. The last meeting in 1998 was held in Athens, Ohio. In that contest, ECU edged Ohio, 21-14.

The Pirates enter the 2013 Beef `O’ Brady’s Bowl, having won five of their last six games to close out the year. Its lone loss during that six-game stretch came to Marshall on the road. As a team, East Carolina is averaging 40.4 points per game and has outscored their opponent 485-302. Quarterback Shane Carden has accounted for 42 touchdowns (32 passing, 10 rushing).His 71.0 completion percentage leads the nation. Carden’s top receiving target is wide receiver Justin Hardy. In 2013, Hardy has caught 105 passes for 1,218 yards and eight touchdowns. Defensively, the Pirates own Conference USA’s top rushing defense and have sacked their opponents 35 times. Linebacker Derrel Johnson leads the ECU defense with 79 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks.
