College Football Playoff Rankings

Clemson, LSU, Ohio State and Alabama Are Top Four Teams In First CFP Rankings.

TULSA, Sporting Alert - Clemson is the No. 1 team in the first College Football Playoff top 25 rankings which was released on Tuesday night.

The Tigers, who are 8-0 this season, are ranked 3rd in the AP top 25 poll, but leaped over defending champion Ohio State and Baylor to top the CFP rankings.

Meanwhile, although he is likely to be more than happy to be among the top four teams in the season's first rankings, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said earlier Tuesday that he only cares about what happens a month from now.

"The only poll we’re excited about is December 6th," Swinney said earlier in the day at his press conference for the Florida State game. "I promise you we will have the biggest poll party you’ve ever seen.

"We’ll open up Death Valley and serve pizza to everybody on December 6th. That will be a time to celebrate a poll. Until then, it just doesn’t matter. Our focus in on trying to beat Florida State.”

Clemson, which many pundits think should be the top team in America in the AP rankings, is joined by LSU, Ohio State and Alabama, which leaped over several undefeated teams to be in the top four.

Notre Dame and Baylor are sitting No. 5 and No. 6 and are the first two teams out.

However, despite being undefeated and being one of the top teams in the country, TCU only returned a No. 8 ranking in the College Football Playoff top 25 ranking, with Michigan State coming in at No. 7.

Iowa is at No. 9 and Florida starts the CFP rankings at No. 10.

Meanwhile, Stanford, the No. 9 team in the Associated Press rankings, is at No. 11 in the College Football Playoff rankings, and is the only team ranked in the AP poll to not be in the CFP rankings.

At No. 16 is Florida State, Michigan is at No. 17, with Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Mississippi State completing the top 20

Northwestern, Temple, UCLA, Toledo and Houston made up the remaining teams in this season's opening College Football Playoff Top 25 Rankings.
