CONCACAF World Cup Wrap: Wins for USA, Jamaica and Mexico

TAMPA, FL (Sporting Alert) — Arsenal young striker Joel Campbell was on the scoresheet, but his Costa Rica side gave up a 2-0 lead and were held 2-2 at home by El Salvador in their CONCACAF 3rd round Group B 2014 World Cup qualifier.

Meanwhile there were wins for Jamaica, Canada, USA and Mexico in other CONCACAF action.

Campbell, who was loaned out to Lorient by Arsenal last season, scored in the 15-minute to add to Costa Rica’s the lead, which was started by Alvaro Saborio in the 10-minute.

However, Jose Isidro Gutierrez scored for El Salvador in the 23rd to make it 2-1 before the visitors came back in the second half to even things up to take a share of the points.

The equalising goal was scored by William Osael Romero, nine-minutes into the second half.

USA, though looking shaking eased past Antiqua and Barbuda in Group A action – with Carlos Bocanegra, Clint Dempsey and Herculez Gomez scoring for USA. Peter Byers scored the visitors’ goal.

In Kingston, Jamaica, Demar Phillips scored late in the first half and Ryan Johnson netted early into the second and the Reggae Boyz beat Guatemala 2-1.

Carlos Salcido and Giovani dos Santos were both on target as Mexico defeat Guyana, 3-1.

In Group C, Blas Perez scored a second half brace for Panama to beat Honduras 2-0, while 10-man Canada edged Cuba 1-0.
