ARLINGTON, Texas – The University of Connecticut men’s basketball team will play for its fourth-ever national title on Monday, April 7 at 9:10 p.m. ET when it takes on Kentucky at AT&T Stadium in North Texas.
The game will be televised on CBS with radio coverage on the UConn IMG Sports Radio Network.
UConn (31-8) is 3-0 all-time in national championship games (1999, 2004, 2011) and owns a 7-1 (.875) record in Final Four play. Over their last 12 NCAA Tournament appearances the Huskies sport an impressive 37-8 (.822) overall record.
The Huskies advanced to the title game with a 63-53 upset over Florida on Saturday in the Final Four. Junior forward DeAndre Daniels tallied a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Husky offense.
Senior guard Shabazz Napier, who was tabbed as the 2014 Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year, scored 12 points and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. As a team, Connecticut registered 12 assists on 24 baskets and held the vaunted Florida offense to a season-low point output.
Kentucky (29-10) continued its hot play, defeating No. 2 seed Wisconsin, 74-73, in the second Final Four game. Julius Randle leads the Wildcat offense with 15.1 points and 10.1 rebounds per game, while James Young (14.2 ppg) and Aaron Harrison (13.9 ppg) have been consistent scorers for the young Kentucky squad.
UConn and Kentucky last met in the 2011 NCAA Tournament national semifinals. The Huskies dispatched the Wildcats, 56-55, behind a 15-point performance from Kemba Walker. The Connecticut defense stifled Kentucky on the offensive side of the ball, holding the SEC powerhouse to just 33.9 percent shooting from the floor.
The two teams are the highest combined seeds to reach the NCAA Tournament championship game since the field expanded to 64 teams in 1985. This is the first time UConn has ever played as a No. 7 seed and also marks the first time a No. 7 seed has reached the title game.
