MADRID (Sporting Alert) — Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brilliant free-kick to help Real Madrid beat Atletico Madrid 2-0 in the derby game on Saturday night.

Ronaldo finally broke his brief goal drought when he beat Thibault Courtois to his right with another one of his trademark free-kicks in the 16th minute to give Real Madrid a 1-0 half-time lead.

Mesut Ozil found the all important second goal for the host team to seal the 2-0 win and cut Barcelona’s lead at the top of La Liga table to 11 points.

Real Madrid were able to keep Atletico scoring machine Radamel Falcao quiet for the entire game.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi netted twice on Saturday as well to guide Barcelona to a 5-1 victory over the struggling Athletic Bilbao at Camp Nou.

Real Sociedad came from behind to beat ten-man Valencia 5-2, with Carlos Vela scoring a brace. Roberto Soldado also scored twice for Real Sociedad in the defeat.
