DAY 2 RESULTS: Wins for Murray, Nadal at Wimbledon

Wimbledon, England (Sporting Alert) — Title contenders Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray advanced to the second round of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships on Tuesday.

Second-ranked and former world No. 1 Nadal survived a slow start before easing past Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci, 7-6 (7-0), 6-2, 6-3 in his first-round contest.

Joining the two-time champion into the second round was Great Britain star and the fourth-seeded Murray, who beat Nikolay Davydenko of Russia, 6-1, 6-1, 6-4.

In other results on the second day, fifth-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga registered a 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Lleyton Hewitt, No. 9 Juan Martin del Potro beat Robin Haase, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 7-5, while
Mardy Fish got past Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo, 7-6 (7-3), 7-5, 7-6 (7-1) and No. 12 Nicolas Almagro defeated Olivier Rochus, 6-7 (4-7), 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, 6-4.
