Great Britain’s defending champion Andy Murray and No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia got off to winning starts after easily bushing aside their opponents on Centre Court.

“I was nervous this morning, nervous yesterday,” Murray said after his wining start. “Walking through brings back a lot of good memories.

“I got a nice round of applause and once you sit down in a chair it’s time to get ready for this year and move on from last year.”

On the women’s side Australian Open champion Li Na, as well as former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, Victoria Azarenka and Venus Williams all registered first-round victories on opening day.

The First Round of matches continues Tuesday. This will lead into the Second Round that takes place on Wednesday June 25th. The Third Round will begin on Friday June 27th.

Getting their campaigns underway in the first round on day two are top-seeded Serena Williams, the third-seeded Simona Halep and No. 5 seed Maria Sharapova.

On the men’s side, No. 2 Rafael Nadal, fourth-seed Roger Federer and the fifth-seeded Stan Wawrinka will all be in action on the second day of action.
