NO. 7 DUKE 99, GEORGIA SOUTHERN 65
DURHAM, N.C. — Brandon Ingram scored a season-high 26 points and led four other of his teammates in double digits and Duke put away Georgia Southern 99-65 in college basketball action on Tuesday night.
Ingram, who shot 9 of 13 from the field, also collected a year best 14 rebounds and had two blocks for the Blue Devils (9-1) who returned to action after being idle last week.
The freshman from Kinston, NC, was recording his first career double-double.
Guard Grayson Allen added 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Matt Jones had 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals for Duke, which shot 53-percent from the field.
Tookie Brown top-scored for the Eagles (3-5) with 20 points, while Mike Hughes ended with 14 points and Devonte Boykins finishing with 11.
Derryck Thornton hit all three of his 3-pointers to end with 15 points and Luke Kennard chipped in with 11 for the No. 7 Blue Devils, who outrebounded Georgia Southern 55-29.
NOTE: After falling behind 5-3 early in the first half, Duke went on a 12-2 run to take a 15-7 lead and then they never trailed again for the rest of the contest.
Next up for Georgia Southern is a date at home against Winthrop on Saturday, while Duke plays Utah on Saturday in New York.
NO. 23 CINCINNATI 75, NORFOLK STATE 59
CINCINNATI — Farad Cobb tied his season high with 20 points, and No. 23 Cincinnati defeated Norfolk State 75-59 in a college basketball game on Tuesday night.
Cobb hit five 3-pointers and shot 7 of 14 from the floor, while Gary Clark added 19 points on 9 of 11 shooting to go with seven rebounds for the Bearcats (9-2) who recovered from the 65-55 defeat to then-No. 12 Xavier on Saturday, Dec 12.
Jacob Evans scored 11 points and Octavius Ellis had 11 rebounds, five assists and three blocks for Cincinnati, who won two of the last three games.
D’Shon Taylor led Norfolk State with 14 points and Preston Bungei finished with 13 in the defeat for the Spartans (4-6).
In another college basketball top 25 game on Tuesday night, No. 22 UCLA beat Louisiana Lafayette 89-80, with Bryce Alford leading the Bruins with 27 points. Shawn Long led the Ragin’ Cajuns with 26 points.
Other college basketball results on the night saw Michigan beating Northern Kentucky 77-62
Memphis turned back Southern 72-67, Texas top Appalachian State 67-55, Georgia Tech earned a 77-64 win over VCU, Oregon secured a 78-63 win over UC Irvine and Wisconsin beat Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 64-49.
