Early wins for Georgia, Ohio State and Wisconsin – NCAAF Action

(Sporting Alert) — Georgia, Ohio State and Wisconsin were all among the winners on the first full fixture of college football action on Saturday.

The likes of LSU, Alabama, Florida, Clemson and Oklahoma and USC, will all be in action later on tonight on ESPN, ESPN3, ESPNU, FSN and ABC.

Results already completed sees the No. 6 Georgia Bulls Dogs beating beat Buffalo 45-23 on an easy day, although the overall football wasn’t pretty.

Freshman running back Todd Gurley’s three-touchdown on debut for 100 yards and returned a kickoff 100 yards for score was the highlight for the winners.

”I didn’t have time for butterflies; everything just came so fast,” said Gurley, whose outing was picking up from his impressive performances during preseason.

”I was just trying to get the plays right. I really didn’t have time to get nervous.”

Urban Meyer made a winning debut with Ohio State, as the Buckeyes recovered from a slow start to pick up a 56-10 victory over Miami (Ohio).

The score was quite impressive, but nothing delighted the coach more than Devin Smith’s superb one-hand catch that set the stadium alight.

”That was a moment that ignited the stadium,” Meyer said. ”The stadium got quiet, our sideline got quiet – we were waiting for a play to happen. And he went up and made a play.”

Elsewhere, No. 12 Wisconsin defeated Northern Iowa 26-21, with Montee Ball rushing for 120 yards and a touchdown.

It was also a handy day for new Wisconsin starting quarterback Danny O’Brien, who completed 19 of his 23 passes for 219 yards and handed a pair of touchdowns to Jared Abbrederis.
