English Premier League Standings & Results: Dec. 9

LONDON, Sporting Alert – English Premier League standings and results after the matches on Saturday, December 9.

Tottenham, West Ham United, Burnley, Huddersfield Town and Leicester City were all among the winners in Week 16.

Defending champion Chelsea fell further off the pace in their pursuit of leaders Manchester City, after losing 1-0 at West Ham.

Marko Arnautovic scored the only goal of the game, as the Hammers moved within goal-difference of climbing out of the bottom four.

The Blues, meanwhile, stayed grounded in third place, but could be overtaken by Liverpool, who play Everton on Sunday.

Harry Kane scored twice and Tottenham hammered Stoke City 5-1 at home, with Son Heung-Min, Christian Eriksen and an own goal from Ryan Shawcross completing the scoring for Spurs.

Shawcross also scored at the other end — grabbing Stoke’s only goal late in the contest.

Burnley and Swansea City both secured 1-0 victories over Watford and West Bromwich, respectively.

Scott Arfield fired home a late first-half winner for Burnley against Watford, who played most of the game with 10-man after Marvin Zeegelaar was sent off five minutes before the interval.

Wilfried Bony’s 81st minute goal sealed a priceless win for the Swans, who climbed off the bottom of the English Premier League standings.

Elsewhere, Ayoze Perez’s late own goal saw Leicester City edged Newcastle United 3-2 at St James’ Park.

Riyad Mahrez and Demarai Gray netted for the Foxes, while Dwight Gayle and Joselu connected for The Magpies.

With the game heading for a draw, Leicester City got a game-winning gift after Perez’s attempt to stop Shinji Okazaki from scoring ended with him putting the ball past his own goalkeeper in the 86th minute.

The defeat saw Newcastle slipped to its sixth defeat in seven games and just two points above the relegation zone in 16th.

A first-half brace from Steve Mounie earned Huddersfield Town a 2-0 win over Brighton, while Jermain Defoe netted a brace to help Bournemouth share the points at Crystal Palace in a 2-2 draw.

Christian Benteke missed a stoppage-time potential game-winning penalty for Crystal Palace.
