BARCELONA (Sporting Alert) – Arsenal missed out at signing Demba Ba and the EPL side has been told they won’t be getting David Villa in the January transfer window as well.
It was understood that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was very interested in Villa and was hoping land the Barcelona forward this month.
However, the La Liga leaders have dismissed reports linking the striker to the English Premier League, stating that he’s still a very important part of the team’s season.
“I completely rule out the transfer of Villa during the winter market,” Barcelona president Sandro Rosell told to Catalan radio station RAC1.
“He is ours and we need him, there is a lot of the season left.”
Arsenal have been struggling to bring in new faces that will make an immediate impact, but Wenger insists he will not rush into buying for buy sake just because the window is open.
“We are on the market and if we find the right players, we will do something”, Wenger told the club’s official website at Arsenal.com.
