MADRID (Sporting Alert) — Atletico Madrid striker Chelsea FC.
Falcao was believed to have been interested in joining La Liga champions Real Madrid until Atletico legend Paulo Futre warned the striker about making such a controversial move.
“If Falcao signed for Madrid, it would be very hard for him to live in Madrid”, Futre was reported as telling TV channel La Xarxa.
“It would be a nightmare for him to live in Madrid.
“He would be fine, but it would be a nightmare day [when he signed] for him and his family.”
On hearing those comments, it is now being suggested that Falcao has decided against making the short move to the city rivals and will instead join Chelsea.
In fact, Punto Pelota is reporting that the Columbian international will move to London when the new transfer market opens next month.
And a move for Falcao could trigger Atletico Madrid to go for Real Madrid’s frontman Gonzalo Higuain, who is also being linked with a getaway move to Chelsea in January.
Fernando Torres as been very inconsistent for the Blues this season and manager Rafa Benitez wants to find another striker or two to give the Spanish international some competition.
Manchester United forward Javier Hernandez is also said to be on the shopping list of Atletico, although Jose Mourinho has been tracking the Mexican striker as well.
Hernandez finds himself down the pecking order at Old Trafford behind Wayne Rooney and summer signing Robin van Persie and he’s apparently looking for a way to play more first team football.
