(Sporting Alert) — Fernando Torres is set to be handed a starting place for Spain when they take on South Korea in a friendly football international on Wednesday.
The Chelsea forward was included in Spain’s squad for the EURO 2012 tournament which starts next week and coach Vicente del Bosque, who is without top goalscorer David Villa – out injured – could start him upfront at the Stade de Suisse Wankdorf.
Torres struggled to adjust with the move to Stamford Bridge and even said he didn’t expect to get a call up for the EURO.
However, after showing improving signs in the latter parts of the season, and injury knock out to Villa, Del Bosque has opted to take a chance with the once scoring machine.
A number of players, including Barcelona’s midfield generals Xavi and Andres Iniesta could also get a run, while Chelsea’s Juan Mata, who also missed the 2-0 win over Serbia at the weekend, is also set to start.
Manchester City playmaker David Silva, who was a second half substitute against Serbia, could also start the game tonight.
