MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) — Defending champions Manchester City and Chelsea were amongst the team held in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday.

There were big wins, however, for Manchester United and Arsenal on the day.

Chelsea were held 0-0 at Loftus Road Stadium in a match where QPR defender Anton Ferdinand refuses to shake hands with John Terry, following their racial dispute last season.

Manchester City were held 1-1 at Britannia Stadium by Stoke City with new signing Javi Garcia cancelling out Peter Crouch’s opener.

Meanwhile, at Old Trafford, Javier Hernandez, Alexander Buttner, Paul Scholes and Nick Powell all scored in the second half as Manchester United hammered Wigan 4-0.

Arsenal, with the help of two own goals, pumped six past newly promoted Southampton in a 6-1 victory at Emirates Stadium.

There were also wins for Aston Villa and Fulham, for which former Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov scored twice.
