MUNICH (Sporting Alert) — Star attacker Franck Ribery will miss Bayern Munich’s Champions League second leg last-16 tie with Arsenal on Wednesday because of an injury.
The German international suffered a ligament injury to his left ankle during Bayern Munich’s 3-2 league win over Fortuna Dusseldorf on Saturday.
Ribery joins midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger and defender Jerome Boateng, who are both banned, on the sidelines.
Bayern Munich dominated the first meeting against Arsenal in England and will start massive favorites to go through, as they hold a comfortable 3-1 advantage heading into the contest at the Allianz Arena.
The Barclays Premier League side is still hopeful of pulling off a win in Munich.
“We have to pick ourselves up,” Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny said.
“We have a lot of time to prepare for that game [in Munich], and if we manage to get a good result and hopefully qualify for the next round, that would be a massive boost to have a good run in the Champions League.”
