Fulham vs Swansea City: Michu out, Berbatov backed to score

LONDON (Sporting Alert) Swansea City will be without top scorer Michu for Saturday’s Barclays Premier League fixture against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Michu, who is the joint leading Premier League scorer with 13 goals, will miss the trip because of the ankle injury he picked up in the Boxing Day scoreless draw at Reading.

The Spaniard has come to Swansea rescue several times this season, include scoring in the 1-1 tie with Manchester United, but manager Michael Laudrup dismissed that his team is a one man army.

“You cannot rely on a player playing all the games for the whole season,” Laudrup said.

“It would be a lie to say we won’t miss him. But we will still have a competitive team.”

So with Michu out, Laudrup will decide before the game on whether to start with Danny Graham, Luke Moore or Itay Shechter. The boss will also have Pablo Hernandez and Angel Rangel available for the contest.

At the same time, Fulham will have Bryan Ruiz back after the Costa Rican passed fitness test and will likely start against Swansea.

However, Laudrup noted that striker Dimitar Berbatov is one of the quality players in the Fulham squad.

“They have quality,” Laudrup said on www.swanseacity.net. “They started very well but in the last few months they have only won once in 11 – but there are five draws in there.

“They want to play, and they let you play as well. We have to take advantage of that.

“Berbatov has a lot of quality. If he is having a good day then they will be very difficult to beat. If he is not having a good day then you have possibilities.”

Swansea completed the sweep over Fulham in the Premier League last season and will be looking to deliver another set of similar results, starting with victory on Saturday.

In the two English League wins over Fulham last season, Swansea did not concede a goal.
