Mario Gomez has failed his fitness test and is out of the contest, meaning Germany coach Joachim Low will be without a recognized forward in the starting line-up today.
With Gomez out and Lukas Podolski sitting on the bench, the bulk of the attacking attention will come from Marco Reus and Mario Gotze, who are both capable of scoring goals from their positions.
“A striker has got to be quick-thinking, good at winning possession and have a good finish,” Low said.
“We have strikers like Gomez or (Miroslav) Klose who fulfil that, but we also have other types of player like (Marco) Reus and (Mario) Gotze who can play up front too.
“You always need one player who plays up front.”
Andre Schurrle, who is also capable of scoring goals in available if needing, while the likes of Sami Khedira, Mesut Ozil and Thomas Muller start in midfield.
