All-Star guard Ja Morant led the way for the Grizzlies with 35 points, eight rebounds, and five assists, while Tyus Jones provided a boost off the bench with 18 points, 8 assists, and 6 rebounds.
Steven Adams had a dominant performance on the glass, finishing with 23 rebounds to go along with 11 points. There were useful contributions as well from Jaren Jackson Jr. who scored 14 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, and Dillon Brooks and John Konchar who added 15 and 12 points, respectively.
Meanwhile, De’Aaron Fox led the Kings with 19 points and six assists, and Domantas Sabonis had a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds.
Malik Monk provided a spark off the bench with 18 points, and Harrison Barnes added 16 points. Kevin Huerter finished with 14 points, six rebounds, and five assists, Keegan Murray scored 10 points in the defeat.
The Grizzlies shot 46% (46-100) from the field and had 57 rebounds, 36 of which were on the defensive end. The Kings shot 40.6% (39-96) and made 15 three-pointers.
In the paint, the Grizzlies outscored the Kings 64-44, and also had the edge in second-chance points (15-11) and fast break points (18-17). The Grizzlies led by as many as 14 points and there were 11 lead changes and eight ties in the game.
This was the third meeting of the season between the two teams, with the Grizzlies leading the season series 2-1.
The Kings had their two-game winning streak snapped, while the Grizzlies extended their winning streak to three games.
The Grizzlies will next play on January 4 against the Charlotte Hornets, while the Kings will take on the Utah Jazz on January 3.
