Hield Scores 30pts, Leads No. 1 Oklahoma Over Texas Tech

NORMAN, Oklahoma, Sporting Alert – Buddy Hield scored 30 points  to lead No. 1 Oklahoma to an easy 91-67 victory over Texas Tech in a college basketball game on Tuesday night.

Hield made five 3-pointers and went 9-for-12 from the field overall, while pulling down six rebounds in the win for the Sooners (17-2, 6-2 Big 12) who outscored the Red Raiders 42-28 in the second half.

Isaiah Cousins shot 7-for-11 from the floor in scoring 19 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals for Oklahoma, with Jordan Woodard making 3-of-5 from long-range on his way to scoring 15 points, four assists and four rebounds.

Ryan Spangler ended with 13 points and seven boards for the Sooners, who shot 52 percent from the field overall and from 3-point range.

Khadeem Lattin had eight block shots, four rebounds and six points for Oklahoma, which won two in a row and go top of the Big 12 conference standings with a 6-2 league record.

Justin Gray led Texas Tech with 20 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

“We beat certain defenders off the dribble, and sometimes, it looks like a shot’s open, and you’re ready to go in for it — maybe a layup or a jump shot, and he comes out of nowhere and swats it away,” said Gray.

“You kind of have that in the back of your mind.”

Devaugntah Williams scored 12 points and Matthew Temple added 11 for the Red Raiders (12-7, 2-6 Big 12).

Zach Smith pulled down 14 rebounds, which ties his career-high for Texas Tech, which dropped two straight and six of the last seven games.

“Very impressed with Oklahoma,” Texas Tech coach Tubby Smith said. “They are deserving of number one.

“They’re playing with a lot of confidence. We ran into a team that really shot the lights out tonight.”

Up next for Texas Tech, is a non-conference clash against Arkansas Saturday in a Big 12/SEC Challenge.

Oklahoma will also take on LSU in a Big 12/SEC Challenge battle on Saturday.
