HARRISON, N.J. (Sporting Alert) — Trinidad and Tobago played to a 2-2 draw with El Salvador, while Honduras defeated Haiti 2-0 in Group B of the CONCACAF Gold Cup on Monday night.
In arguably the most spirited game thus far in the Gold Cup Caribbean side Trinidad and Tobago came from behind to earn a point with El Salvador.
Keon Daniel gave the Soca Warriors the lead in the 13th minute, but Rodolfo Zelaya, who had a very impressive game scored twice, in the 22nd and 69th to give El Salvador the advantage.
English Premier League forward Kenwyne Jones blasted home T&T’s equaliser in the 73rd minute to earn the Caribbean side a draw.
Zelaya came close to completing his hat trick in the 89th minute but goalkeeper Jan Michael Williams tipper over his spectacular bicycle kick over the crossbar.
In the night’s other game in Group B, Honduras picked a 2-0 victory over Haiti, with Rony Martinez and Marvin Chavez providing the goals in the 3rd and 78th minutes.
Honduras will next face El Salvador on Friday at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida after Haiti play against Trinidad & Tobago.
