NASSAU, Bahamas (Sporting Alert) — Following the astonishing record breaking performances at the 2013 Jamaica Boys and Girls High School Champs earlier this month, nine athletes from the nation have been tested ahead of this weekend’s CARIFTA Games in the Bahamas.
The Jamaican athletes, who arrived in Nassau less than 24 hours ago, were tested early Friday morning before the opening event at the 2013 Carifta Games on Saturday.
According to reports, five male and four female athletes competing on the track and in the field events, were tested.
The athletes tested on the boys’ side were World Junior and Youth discus gold medallist Fedrick Dacres, high jumper Christoffe Bryan, triple and long jumper Clive Pullen, as well as sprinters Javon Francis, who will compete in the 400metres and World Youth 100m champion Odail Todd.
On the girls’ side, quarter-milers Chrisann Gordon, 100m sprinter Monique Spencer, 200m specialist Shericka Jackson and middle distance runner Simoya Campbell were tested.
Meanwhile, sprinter Michael O’Hara will miss the event at the Thomas A Robinson Stadium after coming down with the chicken pox. The sprinter was the hot favourite to win the Under-20 boys 200m, following his flashy 20.64 seconds at the Boys and Girls Champs.
Todd will take his place.
The 2013 Carifta Games open on Friday with the first event schedule for Saturday.
A total of 30 records were broken at the five day high school championships.
