MADRID (Sporting Alert) — Jamaican sprinter Nesta Carter flashed to a seasonal best time of 9.87 seconds to win the men’s 100 metres at an IAAF World Challenge track and field meeting in Madrid on Saturday.
Cater, a member of the Jamaican world record breaking 4x100m relay team at last year’s London 2012 Olympic Games, dominated the field to win easily over the American pair Rakieem Salaam, who posted 10.07 and Calesio Newman (10.10).
The Stephen Francis coached sprinter, who just ran the second fastest time in the world this year, will not be running the individual event next month IAAF World Championships, but will race on the 4x100m team.
The women’s race went to Barbara Pierre, who flashed home in 10.92, leading a clean sweep for the United States, as Shalonda Solomon and Alexandria Anderson followed home second and third, respectively with times of 11.04 and 11.07. Jamaica’s Carrie Russell was fourth with 11.15.
In other results in Madrid, Ramon Miller from the Bahamas won the men’s 400m dash in 45.20secs, edging out Manteo Mitchell (45.25) and Arman Hall (45.30).
American Brandon Johnson took the men’s 800m with 1:43.84, while countrywoman Brigetta Barrett beat Blanka Vlašic of Croatia to the women’s High Jump crown, with both jumpers clearing 1.98m.
