James finished with 32 points and 13 rebounds, as well as adding three assists and blocks to his stats for hosts at the AmericanAirlines Arena.
Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, who went into the game hoping for a positive result, was delighted to get the good start said he was looking forward to the important Game 2, as it would at least stop Boston from stealing home court advantage.
“One down. And they still have an opportunity in Game 2 to accomplish what they want to,” Spoelstra said.
“At times it was a strange game. Some good runs, both teams. We felt we could have played better, and I’m sure they felt the same thing. But we found a way to grind it.”
Dwyane Wade was effective once again as he finished with 22 points and seven assists, while Shane Battier added a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds for Miami, who were again without the injured Chris Bosh.
Kevin Garnett led the way for Boston with 23 points and 10 boards, while Rajon Rondo had 16 points, nine rebounds and seven.
Paul Pierce ended with 12 points, while Ray Allen continues to struggle, as he only had six with 1 of 7 shooting from the floor.
Game 2 is again in Miami on Wednesday night.
