MIAMI (Sporting Alert) — LeBron James scored 26 points and collected 10 rebounds as defending champions Miami Heat opened its NBA title defense with a 120-107 win over rivals Boston Celtics on Tuesday night.
”It was good to cap this night off with a win,” said Miami coach Erik Spoelstra. ”It was an emotional time for all of us in our organization.”
James shot 10 of 16 from the field on a night when the Heat shot 54.4 percent from the floor.
Dwyane Wade had 29 points and star forward Chris Bosh added 19 points and 10 rebounds in the win for the Heat at the AmericanAirlines Arena.
Ex-Boston Celtics player Ray Allen scored 19 points off the bench against his former team and was well accepted by the home fans.
“Never thought I’d hear that here,” Allen said of the positive chants from the crowd.
Rajon Rondo led the way for the Celtics with 20 points and 13 assists, while Paul Pierce scored 23 points in the defeat.
Leandro Barbosa added 16 points and Brandon Bass finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
