The game was a Group B Asian final-round qualifiers and it pushed Japan to the top of the group with the three points.

The defeat for Oman in the opener saw them sitting at the bottom of the standings on zero points.

Japan took the lead in the 12th minute when midfielder Honda volleyed home a cross from the overlapping Nagatomo Yuto after some slick passes down the left.

The hosts took that 1-0 lead into half-time

Maeda made it 2-0 in the 51st minute with a well taken finish from close range – finishing off a good pass inside the area from Kagawa Shinji, who had a goal disallowed for offside earlier in the game.

Three-minutes later Japan went 3-0 ahead, this time through Okazaki, who finished off the strike on the second try after his first shot was blocked from close range.

Japan will next face Jordan on Friday, also at home.

Jordan played to a 1-1 draw with Iraq in the day’s other game.

In the 14-minute, Nashat Akram gave Iraq the lead, but Jordan pulled one back through Ahmad Hayel Ibrahim, two minutes before halt-time.
