Jeter quickest, Fraser-Pryce looks sharp: Women’s 100m semis

LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Defending champion Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica booked her place in the final of the women’s 100m at the London 2012 Olympic Games on Saturday.

The Jamaica champion who came into the Games as the world No. 1 with a time of 10.70 – used to win the Jamaican Championships – clocked 10.85 seconds and looked comfortable in doing so as well to win her semi-finals heat.

American Allyson Felix posted 10.94 seconds for second place in the semis, with Trinidad and Tobago’s Kelly-Ann Baptiste running 11.00 for third and qualifying as one of the fastest losers.

USA’s champion and world champion Carmelita Jeter was the quickest on the night after she ran 10.83secs to win semi-finals one over Jamaica’s Veronica Campbell-Brown, who also broke 11-seconds – with a time of 10.89.

The third and final semis went to the inform Nigerian, Blessing Okagbare, who clawed her way back from fourth to run 10.92 – sharing the same time with USA’s Tianna Madison. Both athletes ran personal best.

Murielle Ahoure of Ivory Coast also made the final, but defending silver medallist Kerron Stewart missed out with a time of 11.04.
