(Sporting Alert) — James McCarthy has been handed his first competitive start for the Republic of Ireland as they look to get a winning in their World Cup qualifier in Kazakhstan this evening.
Giovanni Trapattoni’s starting XI, which was announced on Thursday also includes attackers Simon Cox, Robbie Keane and Jon Walters.
John O’Shea will lead things from the back, while Glenn Whelan is amongst those starting in midfield.
Sunderland winger James McClean, however, had to settle for a place on the bench, alongside Kevin Doyle and Shane, who all could feature at some point during the game.
Ordabasy midfielder Kairat Nurdauletov leads the Kazakhstan line-up.
