LIVERPOOL (Sporting Alert) – Premier League side Liverpool FC has reportedly had a loan bid for FCBarcelona striker David Villa rejected on Wednesday.
Brendan Rodgers is looking to add to his squad in the January transfer window and Villa, who has been starving for playing time at the Camp Nou was identified as a player he wanted to boost his squad.
However, it is understood that Barcelona rejected the loan offer – insisting that they do not wish to let go of the Spanish international.
It is believed that Villa also wants to stay at Barcelona, despite being overlooked several times for starting opportunities by club manager Tito Vilanova since returning from a broken foot.
Meanwhile Liverpool completed the signing of Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge on Wednesday and both parties were delighted to see the deal done and dusted.
The England forward, however, will not be available for the Premier League home fixture with Sunderland, but will be watching his new team from the stands at Anfield.
Liverpool fans would have loved to see Villa in the squad as well, but as it stands it doesn’t seem likely.
