Lazio beat Siena on penalties after 1-1 tie
(Sporting Alert) — Lazio beat Siena on penalty kicks to progress into the next round of the Italian Coppa Italia at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday.
Siena shockingly took the lead in minute 56th minute of playing time when Michael Ciani saw his clearance attempt hitting his own Lazio teammate Lorik Cana and ended up beating goalkeeper Juan Pablo Carrizo.
Siena then missed several glorious chances to put the game to bed, but their failure to do so saw those missed chances coming back to bite them in the end.
But Ciani came up big time for Lazio in the dying minutes of extra time when he leaped high to power a header past Simone Farelli, after Siena’s sloppy play resulted in Ciani delivering a wonderfully hit cross.
The game then went to penalties after both sides finished 1-1 at the end of extra-time and Lazio went on to take the game 4-1 on penalties in the Fifth Round tie.
