OMAHA, Nebraska, Sporting Alert – After eliminating No. 5 Texas Tech from the College World Series, Coastal Carolina will be looking to extend its impressive form at the tournament on Friday.
The Chanticleers (51-17) secured a 7-5 victory over Texas Tech Thursday night at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha to stave off elimination and advanced to the final four at the NCAA College World Series.
After taking an early 1-0 lead at the top of the second inning, Coastal Carolina quickly found itself trailing 3-1 entering the third inning and needed to react.
The Chanticleers then blasted six unanswered runs to take a 7-3 lead before holding out for the victory, despite the Red Raiders scoring two runs in the seventh inning.
Texas Tech head coach Tim Tadlock praised his opponents for a job well done.
“I thought Coastal Carolina did a good job not taking anything away from them,” Tadlock said. “I thought their starter had really good stuff, and the two guys out of the bullpen we knew were going to be good.
“I knew they were pitchability guys, and they showed that.”
Thursday’s win sees Coastal Carolina setting up a rematch with TCU, which will be streamed live on ESPN3, WatchESPN and ESPN at 8 pm ET on Friday.

The Horned Frogs beat CCU 6-1 in the second round on Tuesday evening and the Chanticleers will certainly be looking to avenge that defeat, as they seek to play for the national championship next week.
But in order for this to happen, Coastal Carolina will have to defeat TCU twice in order to advance to the best-of-three championship series.
Meanwhile, the other College World Series final four-game on Friday sees the impressive Oklahoma State taking on Arizona.
The game at TD Ameritrade Park will be televised live by ESPN2 and streamed live on ESPN3 at 3 pm ET.
The Cowboys (43-20) are 2-0 in this year’s College World Series, and only need a win to advance to the CWS finals ahead of the Wildcats (46-22), who must beat Oklahoma State twice to advance.
