LIVERPOOL (Sporting Alert) Liverpool FC have become the latest team rumored to be interested in signing midfielder Wesley Sneijder, according to Italian news media.
Sneijder is set to leave Inter Milan in the January transfer window, which opens this week, and according to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Liverpool have made a £9million for the playmaker, who is wanted by several big clubs in Europe as well.
The 28-year-old has revealed that maybe it is time for him to leave Serie A side Inter Milan and Liverpool are reportedly tracking his progress as manger Brendon Rodgers look to bring in a few new faces in January.
“Clearly it’s better for everyone if I leave in January,” Sneijder was quoted as telling De Telegraaf.
“If that doesn’t happen, then I will stay.
“I have a contract until the end of June 2015 with Inter.”
It is also believed that Manchester United, a club strongly linked with a transfer move for Sneijder in the past and even came close to signing him on two different occasions, is apparently still interested in landing play distributor.
Another English Premier League side, Tottenham is also said to be on the alert, following Sneijder’s comments, but similar to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, Spurs manager André Villas Boas also says he doesn’t expect to do any business in January.
So with these two clubs This now leaves Liverpool as the big time front runner for the Dutchman, but may have to pay at least £11million to land his signature.
Meanwhile, in Di Santo has moved to squash Liverpool rumors linking him with a move to the club.
A move for Thomas Ince is said to be in doubt with Blackpool still not satisfied with the Reds’ offer for the talented youngster.
