BRAMALL LANE (Sporting Alert) — Harry Maguire scored a second half winner for Sheffield United to open off the new Football League season with a 2-1 victory over 10-man Notts County in League One at Bramall Lane on Friday.
Kevin McDonald fired the hosts into a 30th minute lead after Notts County midfielder Gary Liddle picked up a 13th minute red card for a high footed tackle which gave the referee to other choice but to send him off.
However, second half substitute Enoch Showunmi made an immediate impact after coming on as he found the equalizer with a superb right footed shot past the diving George Long in the 58th minute.
Harry Maguire then grabbed the winner in the 66th when he headed home to make sure David Weir’s team clinched all three points to start the new campaign.
