Manchester City loses captain Vincent Kompany

MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) — Manchester City have lost captain Vincent Kompany because of an injury in today’s Barclays Premier League Manchester derby against United here at Etihad Stadium.

Kompany had looked to be struggling in the early stages of the game and was eventually substituted in the 20th minute.

Kolo Toure has come on in his place and will partner Matija Nastasic in the central defensive position.

Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney has scored twice to give Manchester United an early 2-0 lead against Manchester City.

But there is still lots of football to be played this afternoon.

Rooney, with the two strikes moved to 150 Premier League goals – he’s also moved into double figures in derby goals – now scoring 10 in the Manchester derby against rivals City.

Manchester United leads the Barclays Premier League table standings by three points and will be hoping for a win here on Sunday.

Manchester City, already knocked out of the Champions League and Europa League this season – started extremely well, but this position is piling on lots of pressure on manager Roberto Mancini.
