MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) — Jermain Defoe starts on the bench for Tottenham today in their Barclays Premier League game against Manchester City at Etihad Stadium.

The manager has decided to start up front with Clint Dempsey and Emmanuel Adebayor as he looks to beat another Manchester side, following his team’s victory over Manchester United earlier this season.

Manchester City, meanwhile, have Maicon, Edin Dzeko, Scott Sinclair and Javi Garcia all on the bench, while there was no Mario Balotelli.

Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero lead the attacking line, with David Silva returning from injury to replaced Samir Nasri, who is ill.
