PERTH, Australia, Sporting Alert — Manchester United made it two wins from two pre-season starts with a 4-0 win over rivals Leeds at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Wednesday.
MARCUS RASHFORD SCORES AGAIN
Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford handed the English Premier League giants a 2-0 lead at halftime, before Phil Jones and Anthony Martial added two more goals in the second half.
The win was the second for Manchester United, following their 2-0 victory over Perth Glory also at Optus Stadium on Saturday.
Greenwood broke the deadlock for the Red Devils in the seventh minute when Paul Pogba, who was impressive in the first half, slices through the Leeds defence with a reverse pass that Aaron Wan-Bissaka latched on to and delivered a cross into the six-yard box for Greenwood to poke home from close range.
Rashford made it 2-0 in the 27th minute when the England forward brilliantly side-stepped two Leeds defenders and coolly slotted under the goalkeeper.
ROMERO IMPRESSES IN GOAL
Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero made some very good saves, including a brilliant stop with his foot, to keep Leeds off the scoresheet in the first half.
After the break, United added two more goals through Jones’ thumping header from a corner kick by Andreas Pereira and Martial’s coolly taken penalty in the 51st and 69th minutes, respectively.
Manchester United now head to Singapore for Saturday’s clash with Italian Serie A side Inter Milan.
Leeds remain in Australia but will travel to take on Western Sydney Wanderers.
