LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Manchester United’s chance of reclaiming their Barclays Premier League title was handed a massive boost after the club agreed a deal to sign Robin van Persie from Arsenal.

The fee is believed to be in excess of £20million.

Sir Alex Ferguson and his fellow United officials have been busy over the last few days working on the final steps to persuade Arsenal to sell the wantaway forward and he’s now set for Old Trafford, subject to a medical and personal terms.

Manchester United is pleased to announce it has reached agreement with Arsenal Football Club for the transfer of Robin van Persie,” a stamens said on United official website at www.manutd.com.

“The deal is subject to a medical and the agreement of personal terms. A further announcement will be made in due course.”

Van Persie was destined to leave the Gunners, following talk breakdowns about the future of the club. He followed that by announcing that he would not signed a new contract.

His current deal with Arsenal is to expire next summer.

Should the Holland forward agree to personal term with United, he will certainly give Ferguson a massive boost to an already strong forward line-up, which also includes Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez.

The move of Van Persie is almost certain to see Dimitar Berbatov leaving Manchester United.

Arsenal, meanwhile, issued a statement on its website at www.Arsenal.com: “Van Persie will travel to Manchester on Thursday in order to agree personal terms and complete a medical ahead of the proposed move.”
