Manchester United fans shockingly turned on former boss Sir Alex Ferguson, the man who hand picked current manager David Moyes, following the club’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
It was also reported that stewards had to protect the ‘Chosen One’ banner hanging inside the stadium in honor of Moyes, as several irritated supporters threatened to rip it down.
Manchester United hit a new low on Tuesday night after the defending champions suffered its 10th defeat of the season and the sixth at home.
A brace from Edin Dzeko and another late strike by Yaya Toure setup the victory for the traveling Manchester City side, which moved just three points behind Chelsea in the table standings, with two games in hand.
The result sparked anger among the Red Devils supporters, with some even had to be restrained by active and alerted stewards after they moved toward Moyes.
It was also at that moment others, fully charged and very frustrated, began to voice their anger at Ferguson, apparently blaming him for his role in Moyes being appointed as his successor.
After United’s Champions League win over Olympiakos and last week’s win over West Ham United on Saturday, there were many who were hoping things were turning for the better at Old Trafford.
However, the struggles have supporters fearful that the club may take years to return to the top.
Several pundits, although ripping the players for underperforming, blames Moyes for constantly playing certain players out of position in unfamiliar formations.
