Manchester United named Champions League squad

MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) — Manchester United on Tuesday named its squad for this season’s UEFA Champions League group stage, with several young players included.

The initial 33-man squad sees several B-Listed players, including goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, defender Michael Keane and forwards Federico Macheda and Joshua King all selected.

“A player may be registered on List B if he is born on or after 1 January 1991 and has been eligible to play for the club for any uninterrupted period of two years since his 15th birthday by the time he is registered with UEFA,” an UEFA regulations rules pointed out.

Included also in the squad is midfielder Darren Fletcher, who is slowly back on his way from an illness that threatened his career.

“Darren’s put a lot of weight back on.

“He’s back to his normal weight from two or three years ago. It’s a case of wait and see.

“But he comes into the 25-man squad quite easily, without me having to leave others out because we have a number of players who we don’t need to register because of the time they’ve spent with us as an academy player.

Manchester United are drawn in Group H alongside Galatasaray, Braga and CFR Cluj.
