POZNAN, Poland (Sporting Alert) — Manchester United are reportedly no longer interested in signing Wesley Sneijder and will do their best to land Luka Modric from Tottenham instead.
At least those are the words bubbling around here at the Euros.
Sneijder has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford in the past, but it is believed that manager Sir Alex Ferguson has become fed up with the delays over his high wages and has decided to move into a different direction.
And Manchester United boss proved this by landing Japan attacking midfielder Shinji Kagawa from German champions Borussia Dortmund and apparently has now set his sights on completing his midfield with Modric, who is highly tipped to leave Tottenham in the summer.
Kagawa has recently revealed that he would prefer to play in the creative position for Manchester United, a place that Sneijder would also look to station.
“I want to play (in the hole),” Kagawa was quoted as telling the Kyodo news agency on Wednesday. “I feel like that’s where I play my best football.
“I plan on working hard so I can win my place at the position.
“They’re one of the biggest clubs in the world, and I was given a chance to play for them.
“I took a lot of things into consideration, like the fact that they’ve got a deep squad, their style of football and it wasn’t an easy decision.
“But I wanted the challenge.”
And with Modric also on Ferguson’s shopping list, it is difficult to see the Croatian star, Kagawa and Sneijder all heading to Red Devils at the same time.
