MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) Robert Lewandowski is set to make a move to Barclays Premier League side Manchester United, according to British and German news media.
Transfer Fee Already Agreed?
Lewandowski has been heavily linked with a summer transfer dream move to Old Trafford and the Daily Mail and German newspaper Bild are both reporting that the Borussia Dortmund forward will join the league leaders at the end of the season.
The reports claimed that Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund have agreed on a £18million transfer fee for the 24-year-old, who has impressed Sir Alex Ferguson for a while now.
It is believed Ferguson plans to shake up his squad again this summer and he sees Lewandowski as a possible valuable signing who could play with the likes of Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and his former teammate Shinji Kagawa, who joined Man United in the summer.
Big Time Problem For Man U?
But will it even make sense to bring in another attacker to join the list of stars still wanting playing time?
If these reports are indeed true, Ferguson, who already has a major problem on his hand with trying to satisfy four strikers currently, could be setting himself up for further headaches.
The likes of Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez are already on the waiting list behind Rooney and van Persie and adding Lewandowski to that group, several pundits believe, would make no sense as it would potentially create more unsettled times for those already wanting to play.
There are also concerns over where Kagawa will play when he comes back, although the signs are showing that he will now line-up alongside Michael Carrick in midfield with Rooney continuing to play behind Dutchman van Persie.
More Transfer news about Manchester United
Nani is almost certain to leave Old Trafford, while both Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes, despite Ferguson playing down the reports, will not return next season – opening more gaps to be filled.
Anderson, despite playing some of his best football this season, could also be sacrificed with a move away from the Red Devils not totally convinced that he will be able stay fit for an entire season when he comes back.
NOTE: Manchester United have already scored the most goals in the Premier League this season at 48, with van Persie netting 13 of those. Lewandowski is having an amazing career in front of goal – scoring 40 league goals in 83 games for Dortmund.
