Louisville, KY (Sporting Alert) — Murray State used a powerful second half to beat Colorado State 58-41 in their opening game at the 2012 NCAA basketball tournament here at the KFC Yum! Center on Wednesday.
Down 24-23 at the break, the Racers outscored their opponents 35-17 in the second half to pick up the victory. The Colorado State Rams didn’t do themselves any favours either as they committed 21 turnovers in the game.
Isaiah Canaan led the way for Murray State with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Donte Poole added 13 points off the bench in the win for the No.6 Racers, which now improved to 31-1 this season.
Ivan Aska had eight valuable rebounds, while Edward Daniel contributed six rebounds, four steals and six points for Murray State, which shot 39-percent from the field.
Meanwhile Pierce Hornung had a career-high matching 17 rebounds to go along with his 12 points to lead the way for Colorado State, while Jesse Carr added 11 points, eight boards and four assists in the defeat.
