DORTMUND (Sporting Alert) – Arsenal and Liverpool target Mario Gotze was on the score sheet for Borussia Dortmund in a friendly game against Mechelen on Thursday.
With the German Bundesliga currently on winter break, teams are taking the opportunity to get a few exhibition games in their schedule.
Gotze scored from the penalty spot in the 65th minute of play.
CLUBS WANT MARIO GOTZE
The German international Gotze has been attracting interests from several top European clubs, including English Premier League side Liverpool and Arsenal.
It was also understood that Manchester United had also shown interest in the midfielder, but Sir Alex Ferguson is no longer in the running to land his signature.
Recently, Borussia Dortmund general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke warned Arsenal and Liverpool that they were not good enough to sign Gotze and the 20-year-old added that he doesn’t intend to leave the club.
“I feel very comfortable in the city of Dortmund where I have friends and family,” Gotze was quoted as telling der Western.
“That speaks volumes for BVB. My contract runs until 2016, so there’s no reason for me to think about anywhere else.”
